Detail Design is an upcoming text book authored by Brook Teklehaimanot and Tibebu Daniel. The book is meant to be a text book for 3rd and 4th semester Design Students. The course for both semesters is thematically organized on the ‘detail’ both in its theoretical notion as well as its practical meaning in the making of Architecture. How does one conceive a detail and how does one make it? A pedagogical approach of exploring details from current and contextual Ethiopian society artifacts is chosen so as to make students keen to their physical and social environment. A particular detail is extracted from these artifacts and goes through different processes of design where it is synthesized, mutated and finally integrated to make a holistic piece of Architecture. The textbook will be published in 2020.
Experiment on Building Envelopes is a group publication by EiABC, Chair of Architecture and design I, AKT II, Sebastian Behmann (SOS) and Julia Mauser. Apart from documenting the so-called semester course called EBE, this publication goes beyond probing into the material and recycling
culture within the city of Addis Ababa. The processes behind materials, their cultural associations, and the design processes that follow later while working on the facades has been well documented in this research publication.
Making, a publication authored by Brook Teklehaimanot. This book is interested in prototypes. Not just in prototypes as what they stand for but also in prototypes as they themselves are: their material, form, shape, color and artistic associations. Making is predominantly a textbook for the course of advanced model making. Works are presented as MAKING tasks from exercise extracted given to model making workshop students from 2009 – 2013 at EiABC. The text book has making tasks structured either as daily exercises or projects, ultimately guiding students into being skilled model makers.
